Evaluation of Integrated Wasteland Development Project in Shivpuri District of Madhya Pradesh

Sample: 6 micro watersheds / villages in Sarkula Nadi mili watershed and 7 Micro watershed /villages in Ranpi Nadi mili watershed were selected. The watershed activities were physically verified in 14 micro watershed / villages. Financial verification was carried out in all 24 Micro watersheds.

Results and major findings

                               i.           The PIA was well represented by various expertise and were efficient in carrying out the PIA level works.

                ii.     Having member from Water Resource Dept. the PIA was in an advantageous position in implementation of watershed activities. Regular trainings were carried out for the villagers by the PIA members, which seemed to be a significant achievement.

                iii.   The watershed committee members were very sincere in carrying out their activities and the selection of site for works were proper. Especially the percolation tank and gull plugs were as per the requirements of the villagers and technically sound.

                iv.    A significant no. of SHGs, UGs and WTCGs were formed in most of the micro watersheds. Several SHGs had received financial assistance and were associated with income generating activities. However, the WTCGs were functionally inactive in all micro watersheds.

                 v.    The weaker sections of the society were fully encouraged for participation, as a significant no of STs, SCs, and OBCs were member of watershed committee.

                vi.    The concerning issue in the project area was the poor status of plantation and fodder development activities, which was due to poor irrigation facilities.
